Statue of freedom fighter Jangabir Sapkota damaged
Mukesh Sharma, KalimNews, Kalimpong, 21st August: Unidentified miscreants have damaged the statue of freedom fighter Jangabir Sapkota located at 9th Mile in Kalimpong. Sapkota is also known as Gandhi of the Hills.
The statue which was built in 2011, was damaged last night by some unknown miscreants .
The finger part of both the hand has been broken into pieces. After some locals saw the statue hand broken informed the members of Jangabir Sapkota Murti Nirman Committee, who visited the area and then lodged a written complaint at Kalimpong Police Station.
Norden Lama President of the committee today talking with reporter condemn the action and said What kind of mentality does one possess who have done this . No statue is safe in the town.
'We have lodged complaint and hope that culprit get arrested soon' said Lama.
He said the gates of the Jangabir Sapkota park chains and lights along with the tiles has been lost within a span of 3 years.
Meanwhile police sources said that the inquiry have started and the matter is been looked closely.
Many organistaion have condemn the act of miscreant and have demanded prompt action from the police.
