Sikkim Krantikari Morcha meets BJP party president
The meeting started off with the SKM president congratulating Shah on being appointed chief of the BJP and the SKM expressed happiness on the success of the saffron front in forming the government at the Centre. Golay told Shah that the people of Sikkim have great expectations from a dynamic prime minister such as Narendra Modi. He conveyed to the BJP president the hope and aspirations the Sikkimese people have bestowed on the central government in its sincere mission to uproot poverty and fight corruption.
The SKM delegation also briefed Shah about the prevailing situation in Sikkim that ranged from politics to socio-economic issues, which need to be taken care of by the Centre. Focusing on the issue of corruption that is allegedly rampant in a tiny state such as Sikkim, the issue of restoring democracy in the state in its true sense surfaced prominently during the entire course of the meeting.
Golay sought to impress upon Shah that whatever is happening in Sikkim in the name of democracy is elusive in nature and in reality, the SDF government wields absolute autocratic power.
Later, expressing his satisfaction with the meeting, the SKM chief said, “The issue of combating corruption and restoration of democracy in Sikkim were the key features discussed in today’s meeting and we hope our urgings will be taken up on a positive note by the Centre for the overall welfare of the Sikkimese people going forward.”
