Sikkim govt okays funds for various projects

SNS, Gangtok, 03 Aug 2014: A cabinet meeting held under chief minister Pawan Chamling on Friday decided to establish a Youth Development Board along with the Sikkim Music Drama Dance and Film Board and the Sikkim Culture Heritage and Communal Harmony Board.
The meeting also revised the administrative approval and sanction of Rs 379.20 lakh with an additional allotment of Rs 20.33 lakh for the supply of furniture to the new Raj Bhavan. In the meeting, it was proposed that a post of a bio-medical engineer and two posts of college principals be created, along with the creation of five posts of enumerators under the Department of Animal Husbandry, Livestock, Fisheries and Veterinary Service.
The meeting further sanctioned Rs 90,91,928 for the “interim purchase” of drugs, medicines and consumables for the financial year 2014-15 and Rs 1.70 crores as grant to the State Institute of Capacity Building in Karfectar in South Sikkim.
For tourism projects under the Border Area Development Programme, the cabinet sanctioned Rs 362.69 lakh, while augmentation of the Sombaria water supply scheme in West Sikkim for Rs 799.89 lakh was also approved, along with augmentation of the Legshep water supply scheme in West Sikkim for Rs 733.36 lakh. In all new cases of land lease, approval was given to reduce the lease period from 99 years to 33 years.
A proposal to procure 53 buses under the Transport Department was also approved along with sanction of Rs 252.00 lakh for special repairs, furniture and furnishing of various residential/non-residential government buildings in and around Gangtok.
Also, Rs.1622.83 lakh was sanctioned with an additional Rs. 389.87 lakh for the construction of a car park area at Tashiling Complex in Gangtok.
Rs 2,79,41,321 was okayed for the distribution of rice to the economically weaker section of people having the voters’ card, and Rs 5962.10 lakh for the implementation of the Sarba Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) programme for the year 2014-15 and Rs 250.00 lakh for the Mukhya Mantri Jeevan Raksha Kosh scheme.
Rs 26, 52,400 was sanctioned for repairing, renovating/providing classrooms for the Sikkim Degree College in Burtuk.
The meeting further decided to go ahead with the construction of the head office-cum-training institute for the Sikkim Cooperative Union at Assam Linzey in East Sikkim.
The cabinet also released Rs 261.07 lakh as the first instalment to the Sikkim State AIDS Control Society for the year 2014-15.
