Darjeeling police make efforts to provide justice to a tortured child
EOI, Siliguri, 14 August 2014: Naxalbari residents on Wednesday demanded the police make an immediate investigation and arrest of the culprits who tortured and physically assaulted a child near her house and fled.
The eight-year-old girl child had been taken to Delhi for domestic work three months ago from Merry View Tea Garden near Hatigicha under Naxalbari police station.
The girl was rescued and then admitted at the Naxalbari hospital and later referred to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. The Darjeeling police have now started investigations after a formal complaint was lodged against the culprits by a NGO who is helping her to get justice.
The girl narrated the horrifying story about how she used to be beaten with hot iron rods and her hands burnt with cigarette butts when she committed a minor mistake. She said when she fell ill after the inhumane torture, she was then boarded into a train and abandoned near her house.
According to information, a woman named Babli Gope had taken her to Delhi offering her a good job and a handsome salary.
