Toto girl graduate

TT, Alipurduar, July 23: Sova Toto has become the second Honours graduate among girls in the Toto community, young members of whom face a lot of hurdles in their daily life to pursue education.

The girl passed her graduation in geography from ABN Seal College in Cooch Behar under North Bengal University with 43 per cent marks. Sova lives in Totopara, 70km from Alipurduar.

Talking to Metro over the phone from Calcutta, the girl said: “I aspire to become a West Bengal Civil Service officer and I am preparing for the exam in Calcutta right now. I want to help the children of Totopara who face hardships to reach school. The roads are in a bad state and we have to cross two rivers which are in spate most of the time during the monsoon. So most of the children skip schools.”

The nearest town to Totopara is Madarihat, 22km away.
