TT, Siliguri, July 15: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee will lay the foundation stone of a safari park planned by the state government on the fringes of Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary on July 17.
The safari park, which is the first of its kind in the state, will be built over an area of 600 acres at a cost of Rs 255 crore.
The park is a joint project of the departments of north Bengal development, tourism and the forest.
A source said Mamata would arrive in Bagdogra and head for Darjeeling on July 16.
“On July 17, she will attend a government function at Chowrasta in Darjeeling. In the function, she will lay the foundation stone of the safari park, which we expect, would be ready in two years. On July 18, the chief minister is likely to come to the plains and stay on the outskirts of Siliguri. She will leave for Calcutta on July 19.”
