Morcha vote share meet
Vivek Chhetri, TT, Darjeeling, June 11: The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has decided to hold meetings in the municipality area as the Lok Sabha election results have shown that over 35 per cent of votes polled in Darjeeling town went either to Trinamul or to Independent Mahendra P. Lama.
Narayan Pradhan, the general secretary of the Morcha’s Darjeeling town committee, said: “We have found out that a significant number of people in Darjeeling voted for other parties. We have decided to hold meetings… on June 14 to find out the reason behind the polling pattern.”
The hill municipality has 32 wards of which 23 are in the town proper.
In the 76 polling booths in these 23 wards, Morcha- backed BJP candidate, S.S. Ahluwalia, had polled 21,907 votes. The second spot was occupied by Lama, who had polled 7,223 votes.
Bhaichung Bhutia, the Trinamul candidate, bagged 6,768 votes.
The total votes of both Lama and Bhutia makes up 38 per cent of the vote share.
