Man held with Rs13 lakh

UJJAL BHATTACHARYYA, EOI, Siliguri, 14 June 2014: The Pradhan Nagar police Friday night apprehended a man from the South Baghajatin Colony area of town on the charge of robbing Rs14 lakh from two contractors near the Siliguri Junction area. Police have recovered Rs13 lakh from him.
Siliguri deputy police commissioner (HQ) OG Pal said the accused has been identified as Md Jabber (25), a resident of South Baghajatin Colony under the Pradhan Nagar police station.
She said Jabbar had robbed Pramod Sharma and Rajesh Chhetri, two professional contractors from Sukhaypokhari on June 12 near the Junction area. The next day, the duo lodged a complaint with the Pradhan Nagar police station and the accused was arrested the same night.
In his account, Jabbar claimed he did not know the bag he had snatched from the contractors contained so much money. He said he spent just Rs 500 from the amount.
Jabbar was presented today at the Siliguri court and has been sent to police custody.
