Guard Against Nepotism, Do Not Speak Out of Turn, PM Modi Tells New MPs

Modi-new-ptiTIR,Surajkund Haryana, 28 June 2014: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed a master class of the MPs of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who have for the first time been elected to the Parliament. The PM has told them that they, like him, are still learning the ropes of the duty.
The Prime Minister said that he too had won for the first time and that he too was a new MP, adding that he had learnt from his seniors.
63-year-old PM Modi had been elected to power to the Lok Sabha for the first time from Varanasi Uttar Pradesh.
Mr. Modi has also urged the first-time lawmakers to meet either him or the party president Rajnath Singh in case they needed help.
After this message, the PM then moved on to guide the lawmakers on how best they could nurture the respective constituencies that they belong to, particularly through the use of social media in spreading the message of the party.
Venkaiah Naidu, the BJP leader, told reporters that the workshop, which took place for the first time for the party MPs, had been organized in order to train then regarding parliamentary procedures as well as to create awareness among them regarding the ideology of the party.
He further said that the PM had guided the lawmakers regarding maintenance of standards in public life, how to carry the message of good governance to the nation, the BJP’s message, and it turn of the PM to the people.
Jagdish Mukhi, the leader of the party in charge of party affairs in Haryana said that the PM had told them that their responsibilities as the members of the ruling party are different and thus should thus behave accordingly.
The PM also told them that the rule book on proceedings of the Parliament should be treated like the Bhagavad Gita and that they should not step out of it. The lawmakers have also been asked by the PM not to do anything in the Parliament without prior permission from the Chair.
The new MPs have also been asked by Mr. Modi to inculcate good conduct and good parliamentary practices in their public life.
Ram Bilas Sharma, the BJP’s president in Haryana said that Mr. Modi, who is also a first-time MP, had wanted to stay for the duration of the workshop, but was not able to do so, since there were other duties that he needed to fulfill as the Prime Minister.
