Governor’s pat second time
TT, Kurseong: Students of Himali Boarding School in Kurseong perform at the Governor’s Concert in the school auditorium on Saturday.
After the two-hour programme, governor MK Narayanan urged the audience to give a standing ovation to the performers.
“I had said in 2012 that the school’s production was better than Broadway and this performance demonstrated that it was no mere flash in the pan. What makes it stand out is the prodigious talent, excellence in production and musical genius on display. All of us can be proud. Not just in Bengal but in India,” he said.
In 2012, the school had staged Mamma Mia! — a musical that includes several hits by the 1970s Swedish band Abba.
“My wife and I happened to watch Mamma Mia! on Broadway sometime back. I think I will not be wrong when I say this performance has made a greater impression on us than the last one. I am sure that these talents can make it to Broadway (New York) and West End (London),” Narayanan had said.
The concert on Saturday was a collage of all productions the school has hosted since 1996 including, Mamma Mia!, Jesus, Bombay Dreams, Evita and Les Miserables.
School director Robindra Subba said: “Eighty-four students practised for six-seven hours daily for 12 days for the show.”
