GJMM plans Delhi-centric events for Gorkhaland in winter
SNS, Kurseong, 3 June 2014: Come winter season this year, Darjeeling Hills is once again set to witness the demand for a separate state of Gorkhaland intensified, but this time around the agitation and programmes will be Delhi-centric.
Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) chief Bimal Gurung is presently busy meeting various organizations and their representatives to discuss the plans and make them aware of the party’s moves to be taken in the future, according to GJMM sources.
“At the same time, the Hill people and representatives of various organizations have also been informed of the views and sincerity of the BJP-led government at the Centre on their long-standing demand,” a source said.
The sources added that in the meetings, the party chief has been thanking people for their big support in the recent Lok Sabha elections that saw the GJMM-backed BJP candidate, Mr SS Ahluwalia, winning the seat from Darjeeling.
“GJMM leaders are now asking people to be prepared for the Gorkhaland agitation that will be Delhi-centric,” the source said.
Mr Gurung has already said earlier that further programmes on the Gorkhaland demand will be held in Delhi, and that there will be no strike/bandh in Darjeeling Hills.
As he returned to Darjeeling from Delhi recently, Mr Gurung told the media that his party plans to give the new BJP government at the Centre at least six months to settle down.
“We will then take up the Gorkhaland issue with them in Delhi,” he had said.
