BJP to boost trade union in tea gardens
SNS, Siliguri, 2 June 2014: BJP leaders in Jalpaiguri are planning to strengthen the party-affiliated trade union in tea plantations.
Though the Bharatiya Mazdoor Morcha was formed in the tea plantations, it was not functioning during the Left regime and even after the formation of other trade unions backed by the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha, Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad and the Trinamul Congress.
However, after the formation of the NDA-II government under Narendra Modi, the BJP leaders have decided to revive the trade union in the plantations.
BJP leader Birendra Bara, who contested from the Alipurduar Lok Sabha seat, said party leaders have already started holding talks with senior trade union leaders to revive its trade union.
Another BJP activist, Satyalal Sarkar, said: “We have not yet formed the party’s trade union in the tea plantations. But a group of party activists have started working in Malbazaar area to revive the union.”
“A large section of the people at Barodighi in Malbazaar will join the BJP soon. Some of them have already contacted our party workers to form a trade union unit,” Mr Sarkar said.
He further claimed that several people belonging to the Left Front and many of them belonging to the minority community have started joining his party.
The BJP today organized a programme at three places in the Maynaguri block area, a Left bastion, recently captured by the Trinamul Congress in the Assembly by-polls.
