This is Kalimpong

Priyanka Khati, KalimNews, 2 May 2014: This is Kalimpong, a view of the other side of the coin. Golden waters flooded the roads of the Tirpai Fatak today.
Sadly it was not due to some Midas touch but due to the blockage of the underground drain which led to the overflow of the excreta filled water on the street. Sewage which was overflowing over the roads has become a common phenomena in Kalimpong.
The rainfall in the past few days has acted as a catalyst in carrying the waste materials from the roads and lanes and depositing it in the underground drain. This situation will be more aggravated in the rainy season.
The problem of waste generation and management in Kalimpong is not an unknown issue and the picture shown above is one of its many side effects .But if we come to question this, it is a common scene. We have grown accustomed to it in Kalimpong. It is repeated in different areas of the town yet we do not complain or ask for any permanent solution.
In short we have grown habituated to it.(Photo Courtesy : Praveen Chettri)
