Students flock to career fair
TT, Siliguri, May 25: Students came looking for academic, professional and vocational courses at the two-day 11th Education and Career Fair 2014 hosted by Calcutta-based Sape Events & Media Pvt Ltd in association with The Telegraph YOU that began here yesterday.
The event was held at City Garden on Sevoke Road and had around 75 stalls set up by institutions from across the country.
“Over 50 institutions have put up stalls here this year, offering a variety of courses like engineering, medicine, law, management, animation, photography, fashion designing and hospitality. We witnessed a mixed trend this year as students were inquiring about the traditional as well as non-conventional courses. In the past two days, we have had around 5,000 students visiting the fair,” said Sanjay Thapa, the founder and managing director of SAPE.
Last week, the event was hosted in Darjeeling and Gangtok.
Students came from as far as Alipurduar, Binnaguri and Kurseong to attend the event in Siliguri in the past two days.
Sonam Sherpa, a student who passed ISC from Himali Boarding School, Kurseong, was looking for an institute which offers BSc nursing.
“I am a science student and want to do BSc nursing. My visit here has been helpful because I came across two or three good colleges that offer the course. The college representatives provided all relevant information about the fee structure, location of the institutions, hostel facilities and infrastructure,” Sherpa said.
Some of the institutions which had put up stalls at the event were Lovely Professional University, Acharya Institute of Technology and Inspiria Knowledge Campus.
“We got a lot of students inquiring about management, engineering and BSc courses,” said Vineet Nair, the project officer of Lovely Professional University.
The event concluded today.
