One held for ‘sexual assault’ on minor

SNS, Gangtok, 9 May 2014: The Sadar police here arrested one Nitiraj Subba, 63, for alleged sexual assault on a 10-year-old girl. The accused has been charged of sexual assault and detained at the police station and booked under section 376 of Indian Penal Code. 
“The incident occurred on Friday at around 8 am and the accused has been arrested by the Sadar Police,” Superintendent of Police Manoj Tewari said today. 
“The victim was going to the temple along with her two brothers early in the morning in Burtuk when Subba lured the girl and her brothers with some money and sexually assaulted her,” informed police sources said. 
According to the father of the victim, she informed her mother of the incident and an FIR was lodged at the Sadar police station. The accused gave Rs 50 to the victim and 10 each to her brothers and also warned them against disclosing the matter to anyone, the sources said. The father of the victim has demanded stern action against the accused. 
“It was my daughter today, and it could be anyone tomorrow,” the victim’s father said. Subba had been arrested earlier too for alleged sexual assault a minor domestic help in his house. 
Reacting to the incident, the Child Right Protection Commission has demanded proper investigations and action against the guilty. 
It has also demanded that the accused be booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence 2012 (POSCO) Act.
