Entire hills will come under TMC fold in next polls: Burman

Prashant Acharya, EOI, Darjeeling, 17 May 2014: Victorious Jalpaiguri Lok Sabha seat candidate Bijay Chandra Burman of the Trinamool Congress has said his party is not bothered about how the BJP garnered votes from the plains as its main fight was with Left Front, which has been virtually uprooted from Bengal.
Before leaving for Kolkata for an emergency party meeting, Burman spent some time at the Siliguri Journalists’ Club this afternoon.
He said the TMC’s main fight was with the Left Front and its main motive behind contesting the election was to vanquish the red bastion from the state. The TMC leader added the LF once used to rule the tea gardens and had a good hold over them, but the people have vested their entire faith in Mamata Banerjee, which has been proved by their mandate.
When asked about the growing number of votes for the BJP from the hills and plains of Darjeeling district and the Fulbari and Dabgram areas of Jalpaiguri district, Burman said, “The BJP won in Darjeeling just because of the GJM’s support, while the KPP and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha backed it in the plains.”
He said the TMC secured a record number of votes from Darjeeling this time while asserting the entire hills would come under the party’s hold in the next polls.
