AIGL observes 4th death anniversary of party prez
EOI, Darjeeling, 21 May 2014: The fourth death anniversary of Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League leader Madan Tamang was today observed in low key given the model code of conduct still in place.
ABGL leaders were seen paying homage to the slain leader around nine in the morning at the spot he was hacked to death in the year 2010 on this very day. Khadas along with floral offerings were placed in front of the memorial that has been built in the spot where Tamang was killed.
“We held a small programme today as we did not get permission to hold a public meeting as the model code of conduct is still in place till May 27,” said ABGL president Bharati Tamang, the widow of Tamang.
She further said, “It has been four years now since my husband was killed, but we have not got justice till now. The investigation into the case is being conducted at a snail’s pace by the CBI and trials have also not started in the Supreme Court till date.”
It may be mentioned here that Bharati Tamang had filed a case in the Supreme Court in November 2012 wherein she had alleged the CBI investigation into her husband's murder was not satisfactory and had demanded a special investigation team.
Up to now, 28 individuals, all affiliated to the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, have been arrested in connection with the murder of the ABGL leader. However, the prime accused, Nicole Tamang, who had also been arrested, escaped from Pintail village in Siliguri from CID custody and is still absconding.
At present, only two more persons named in the CID charge sheet remain to be arrested apart from Nicole and they are Dinesh Subba and Sangey Yolmo, both of whom are absconding.
All arrests except one were made on the basis of the CID’s charge sheet wherein it has named 31 people of being involved in the murder of the AIGL leader. The arrest of GJM leader Dipen Malley was executed on the basis of a supplementary charge sheet filed by the CBI.
It may be further mentioned here that Dil Kumar Rai (36), who was also listed in the CID charge sheet, was found at Goradura on the way to Singla Tea Estate with deep wounds on his face. Rai was murdered in the evening of December 28, 2011 and investigations are still on into the case.
