Mirik leader claims TMC brought democracy to hills
DEEP MILAN PRADHAN, EOI, MIRIK, 20 Apr 2014: Hill TMC leader from Mirik Busty Kamal Dewan today claimed the political environment has become democratic in the hills following the party’s establishment here. He opined the hill folk must support TMC chief Mamata Banerjee in her efforts to fulfill her dream of converting Darjeeling into “Switzerland”. Speaking to media persons here, Dewan said the TMC’s decision to field a celebrated figure like Bhaichung Bhutia from Darjeeling, has augmented the possibilities of implementation of central development schemes.
Dewan also asserted TMC candidate Bhaichung Bhutia is certain to win and added Bhutia will make sure Darjeeling district is developed as much as the other districts of the state. “The people don’t want violence, oppression and autocracy. They desire peace and democracy and this will be made clear by Bhutia’s victory in the Darjeeling LS seat” Dewan stated. Claiming that the “conscious people” across the hills and plains are supporting TMC, he also alleged the “anti-development leaders” are depriving hills of development and employment. He further said the hill people will be able to live freely in a democratic environment under the leadership of Hill TMC president Rajen Mukhia.
