Mamata refutes Rahul Gandhi’s allegations

EOI, Malda, 19 Apr 2014 : Barely a few hours after Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi took his attack to TMC and accused its involvement in the multi-crore chit fund scam, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee refuted his allegations and came heavily on the Congress led UPA II government. She also slammed a few media houses alleging them of being funded by chit fund companies, when they were active and at peak.
Addressing a huge gathering at Sikandarpur area of Amrity in English Bazaar, Mamata said, “Do not dare to threaten me. I am neither Mulayam Singh Yadav nor am I Mayawati. I do not care if you try to threaten me with CBI. If you have the guts, prove my fault.”. Pointing at Union finance minister P Chidambaram, she challenged, “The fight would continue even if Mamata Banerjee is sent to jail.”
“We will not run the government at the behest of the Central government. Delhi must not teach us governance, rather it should learn from Bengal,” CM said.
The CM further said, “People are not fools. Everyone knows these chit-fund companies grew up when the Left Front was in power. Despite having the authority to control, the Congress government remained mute when the chit fund companies were mushrooming.”
“But we played an active role in curbing the growth of chit-fund companies. We were the first one to take action against them. We booked the Saradha chit-fund group’s owner from Kashmir and even a Trinamool MP was not spared. Trinamool has the honesty and integrity. Those who are attacking us aloud must not forget their roles,” Mamata Banerjee said.
She also took her attack to a few media houses without naming them. “Some media houses are deliberately attacking us. I know your past and how you benefited by those chit-fund companies. You earned huge money by casting advertisements from those companies” she alleged. “Journalists are innocents. They are only paid staff, but such adverse policies are framed by the owner of those houses. Do not prick me, else I would divulge all your records,” the TMC chief warned.
Attacking the sitting Congress MPs, CM said, “They played no role in Delhi for the people of Malda. We have respect for Barkat Ghani Khan Choudhury. But I request you not to cast your votes for those who knock your doors every five years in the name of Ghani Khan without doing anything for you,”
Film-artistes Raima Sen and Ria Sen were the star attractions in today’s meeting. Introducing Malda south TMC candidate Moazzem Hossain, Mamata Banerjee urged the people to vote for him.
