Jalpaiguri dist administration to introduce women-coordinated polling booths
EOI, Jalpaiguri, 4 Apr 2014: This year, women-coordinated polling booths will be set up in Jalpaiguri for the first time ever. District administration sources said eight such booths will be put up across the Jalpaiguri Lok Sabha centre, while 42 women workers will be trained in this regard.
Jalpaiguri Lok Sabha polling personnel cell official Sharmistha Chatterjee said this is for the first time such an initiative is being undertaken at any parliamentary election within the state. Special arrangements are being made to ensure security of the women staff members assigned at the special booths, added Chatterjee.
She further said 753 election workers have been asked to show-cause for not attending the training sessions. Out of the total number, 462 are from Jalpaiguri and 321 from the Alipurduar Lok Sabha centre. Complaints will be lodged with the election commission against those who fail to comply with the directive, noted Chatterjee.
