EC issues show cause notice to Satabdi, Modi
ENS, Kolkata | April 29, 2014: The Election Commission Monday issued a show cause notice to Satabdi Roy, TMC candidate from Birbhum, for allegedly giving assurances of development in the area to people in violation to Model Code of Conduct.
“Roy has to reply within a day,” said Amitjyoti Bhattacharya, assistant CEO.
The EC has also taken suo-motu steps against Narendra Modi for his speech in Sreerampore sunday. Taking a dig at Mamata, Modi in his speech asked how the value of her paintings has shot up and who had bought it for Rs 1.8 crore.
“CD of the speech, factual report and a transcript have been sought from Hooghly DM,” Bhattacharya said.
Referring to the missing logbook at the strongroom on Kyd Street where EVMs had been kept, Bhattacharya said a detailed report had been received and sent to the EC.
“A report identifying negligent persons would be sent to the EC,” he said. Senior CPM leader Rabin Deb said, “We have demanded all EVMs stored there be replaced.”
Meanwhile, the third phase of polling will be April 30 in nine parliamentary constituencies. There are 63 model polling stations in Burdwan.
