April showers bring respite to soaring heat

EOI, Siliguri, 27 APril 2014:  After enduring a scorching heat with the mercury hovering around 40 degree Celsius for the past few days, people of Siliguri and adjoining areas were blessed with late April showers this evening, bringing a much needed respite from the heat. Thick clouds covered the entire region this afternoon raising hopes among the residents for a heavy rain and were blessed exactly with the same. However, the rains did not last as long as it was anticipated.

People were seen on the roads and outside their houses, enjoying the much awaited showers.

Areas surrounding across Siliguri is facing acute water crisis with crops drying out at local farmlands and scarcity of drinking water increasing on a daily basis due to lack of rainfall. The rains are expected to help control these issues to some extend.

Rainfall was also reported from Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri, which were also facing high temperatures in the past few days.
