No state bifurcation:BJP
SNS, Siliguri, 14 March 2014: BJP state president Rahul Sinha today said the party MP, if elected from the Darjeeling Lok Sabha constituency, will address the problems of the people in the Hills, but will in no way work for a bifurcation of the state.
"We are happy about the BJP-GJMM) tie-up and we are hopeful that we will win the Darjeeling seat with a good margin. If elected, the MP will work for the development of the region, address the problems of the people, but will not agree on the bifurcation of the state,” Mr Sinha said over telephone from Kolkata.
For the GJMM, the decision to support the BJP is, however, in tune with its political agenda for a separate state of Gorkhaland.
Mr Sinha said it is true that the BJP always favoured formation of small states, but it is not possible to form a separate state of Gorkhaland with only three Assembly seats in the area.
