Narendra Modi-led government in the offing: Opinion Poll
The Indian Republic, 15 March 2014, New Delhi: According to an opinion poll done by Hansa Research for a news channels, the BJP-led NDA might get 229 seats in the upcoming general election, making it fall a little short of forming a government. The poll projected BJP getting 195 seats on its own, which would the highest tally ever for the party, indicating that the Narendra Modi-led government could be in the offing.
On other side, the UPA is expected to suffer huge loss, getting just 129 seats. The Congress alone is seen getting just 106, which is less than 100 seats it received in the 2009 elections. The opinion poll was conducted for NDTV by the Hansa Research and the results were released on Friday. The predictions are so far in line with the projections given by other polls.
As per the poll, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, BJP is expected to get 40 out of 80 seats which will leave SP, BSP and the Congress-RLD alliance splitting the remaining seats amongst themselves. The BSP is expected to get 15 seats, while SP and UPA might end up getting 13 and 12 seats respectively.
Separate predictions were made for Seemandhra and Telangana in Andhra Pradesh. According to the poll, Congress is expected to get completely ousted in the Seemandhra region with the party getting just 1 seats compared to 21 seats it gained in 2009. Jagan Reddy’s YSR Congress has emerged as a big player with party getting as many as 15 seats. The poll projected that the TDP-BJP alliance might get 9 seats.
In the region of Telangana, the TRS would be major beneficiary which would pick up 11 seats, while the Congress tally would come down from 12 in 2009 to just 5 seats. As expected, the Congress seems to be paying the price for the division of the state in both parts of it, if the poll turns out to be true.
In Orissa and Kerala too, the Congress is predicted to win fewer seats than last time, with the gainer in Orissa being mainly the BJD and in Kerala the Left.
Two states which will not go with the anti-Congress trend would be Punjab and Assam. In Assam, the poll predicts that a Congress-AUDF alliance will win 13 of the state’s 14 seats, while the BJP and AGP will not get any seat. In Punjab, the 2014 tally could be a repeat of the one five years ago, if the poll is right.
On Thursday, Hansa research suggested that BJP will sweep important states like Karnataka, Rajasthan and Gujarat. The survey also projected NCP-Congress alliance which is currently ruling Maharashtra, facing a major jolt in the state.
According to the Hansa research survey, that released the projection in 12 states comprising 319 seats said that AIADMK is all set to win 27 lok sabha seats from total 39 seats in Tamil Nadu, while DMK might get away with only 10 states in the state.
From total 319 seats, the research survey projected 166 seats for NDA, 52 for UPA and 85 for other parties.
In Maharastra, BJP-Shiv Sena alliance might get 33 out of 48 seats whereas Congress might just get 12 seats, incurring loss of 13 Lok Sabha seats from the 2009 elections position. Raj Thackeray led MNS might get one seat in the elections.
In Gujarat, the survey suggests BJP will get 23 out of 26 Lok Sabha constituencies. In Karnataka, BJP is staged to make a grand comeback after a debacle in states election last year, with the party getting 21 out of 28 seats in Karnataka.
As per the survey the BJP, in the Madhya Pradesh is all set to get 24 seats out of 29 total number of Lok Sabha constituencies, where Congress might just get four seats.
In Bihar, while BJP-LJP alliance might get 23 seats and Congress-RJD might get 11 seats out of 40 Lok Sabha constituencies, JD(U) might just get 5 seats.
According to the Hansa Research Survey, TMC headed by Mamata Banerjee is projected to 32 Lok Sabha seats out of 42 in West Bengal, whereas, Left Parties might get 9 seats which is 6 seats less than the 2009 elections and Congress is just left with 1 seat.
However, in Delhi, AAP led by Arvind Kejriwal might once again surprise everyone by winning four out of 7 seats, while BJP might get 2 and Congress one.
The survey suggested that 42% Indians wanted Narendra Modi as the next Prime Minister.
