Mamata ridicules BJP, Congress

Ujjal Bhattacharyya, EOI, siliguri, 25 March 2014: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today claimed the BJP and Congress should not receive a single vote in the state while addressing a massive crowd in Sahudangi near Siliguri. She added the people of Bengal will rightly deal with those who try to divide the state.

Pointing at rivals, Banerjee said, “Please do not vote for candidates who come promising many things ahead of the election but disappear like migratory birds afterwards.” 

She alleged the UPA government has been depriving the state even of its basic rights. The task of repairing the national highway had to be stopped midway due to lack of funds from the Centre, added the chief minister.

Banerjee also accused the Left Front in another meeting held in the evening. Highlighting her government’s projects in North Bengal in spite of severe financial constraints, she appealed to the people to vote for Trinamool Congress candidates. The tourism project initiated at Gajaldoba will generate employment, she promised, adding the state government has spent Rs1,000 crore for Kanyashree and the total expenditure is likely to reach Rs16,000 crore.

The CM also campaigned for Darjeeling Lok Sabha TMC candidate Baichung Bhutia in Naxalbari and later promoted Jalpaiguri Lok Sabha TMC candidate Bijay Chandra Barman from Sahudangi.

North Bengal Development Minister Gautam Deb and TMC MLA Khageshwar Roy were present with her at the meetings. After the meeting, Banerjee headed for Gorubathan where she is slated to spend the night ahead of meetings in Gorubathan and Birpara on Wednesday.
