GNLF poll stand on April 2
TT, Siliguri, March 27: Leaders of the GNLF in Kurseong told the workers today that the central committee of the party would meet on April 2 and announce which candidate the outfit would support in the Darjeeling Lok Sabha seat.
Yesterday was the last day for filing nominations for the Lok Sabha polls and the GNLF hasn’t fielded any candidate in Darjeeling.
Workers of the GNLF-affiliated Gorkha National Women’s Organisation held a closed-door meeting in Kurseong this morning as they were clueless about the party’s stand vis-a-vis the polls. Later, leaders of the GNLF’s Kurseong branch committee held a meeting of workers, including members of the women’s wing. “The cadres were told that the central committee of the GNLF would meet on April 2 and Subash Ghisingh would declare the stand on the Darjeeling seat,” said a leader.
Daya Dewan, the spokesperson for the GNLF’s Kurseong branch committee, said: “Our principal demand is conferment of Sixth Schedule status on the hills. Whichever party supports it will be backed by the GNLF.”
