GJM likely to support BJP once again

EOI, KURSEONG, 27 Feb 2014: The ongoing Delhi tour of the GJM delegation led by general secretary Roshan Giri is being seen as part of the party’s poll strategy. The delegation is reportedly seeking appointments from Congress and BJP leaders to press for the demand of Gorkhaland and the party will likely extend support to the BJP again.
GJM sources said the party delegation is keen on meeting the senior BJP leadership to forge a deal on the statehood demand in exchange of support in the election. A senior GJM leader said although the party has not come up with a final decision, poll surveys predict the wind is blowing in favour of the Narendra Modi camp.
“Under such a situation, it would be wise to support the saffron party. Last time, we supported the BJP and elected Jaswant Singh with a huge majority, but unfortunately the party did not come to power. The BJP has whole-heartedly supported the creation of a separate state of Gorkhaland.”
The Morcha leader further said, “Looking at the direction the wind is blowing, we are thinking of supporting the BJP again.”
According to the sources, the GJM is looking to offer the Darjeeling constituency seat to veteran BJP leader LK Advani or even Narendra Modi. However, the party leadership is also fearful that such high profile leaders may fail to keep their promises, they added.
