Vivek Chhetri, TT, Darjeeling, Feb. 3: A 72-year-old British national on a visit to Darjeeling died early this morning after she had allegedly complained of uneasiness in a hotel here.
Margaret Miriam Harrison, a resident of 53, Downs Road, Dunstable, near London, had checked into the hotel along with 15 other Londoners around 3pm yesterday.
“She seemed to have complained of uneasiness late in the evening and was brought to the Darjeeling district hospital around 1am today. But the hospital declared that she was brought dead,” said a police officer.
Hotel staff said the group was scheduled to spend three nights in Darjeeling. Yesterday, around 7pm, some people accompanying her said they wanted a fire place to be made in her room. However, when our attendant went to the room, they were told that the fire place was not needed. She did not tell the hotel about any ailments,” said a hotel employee.
The exact cause of her death has not been ascertained as the post-mortem report is being prepared. Till now, the police haven’t found anything that suggested a foul play in the Briton’s death. The police said the deceased had also skipped her dinner last night.
