Siliguri marathon....Legendary footballer Thapa to flag-off Siliguri Marathon on 23 January

TT, Siliguri, Jan. 6: A marathon will be organised here on January 23 as part of the third edition of the Uttar Banga Utsav that will start on January 20.
“Apart from the marathon, there will be a mini marathon and a dream run, 8km and 5km respectively. The full marathon is only for men and both men and women can take part in the other two events,” said minister Gautam Deb.
The total prize money for the whole event is Rs 2.34 lakh and winner of the full marathon will get Rs 1 lakh. One can visit  www.siligurimarathon.com or call 09749061806 for registration that begins tomorrow. The last date is January 21.
SNS: Legendary footballer Shyam Thapa and a host of other sports and film personalities will flag-off the Siliguri Marathon 2014, a 8-Km-long mini marathon, and a 5-km-long dream run in Siliguri on 23 January 2014, which will be organised by the North Bengal Development Department and the Agrani Sangha as part of the Uttar Banga Utsav. 
The North Bengal development minister, Mr Gautam Deb, who announced this at a press meet here today, said that to instill confidence and a spirit of competition among the aspiring runners in north Bengal, they had decided to rope successful people from various fields to flag-off the national-level full marathon, a mini marathon and a dream run for the people of north Bengal in Siliguri. 
“Over 7, 000 athletes from all over India took part in the Siliguri marathon and the dream run last year. We are organising the mini marathon for the first time this year. We expect over 10,000 participants will take part in the three races,” he said. 
The minister informed that the three races will be flagged off from the Hashmi Chowk at 7.00 a.m. “The full marathon will pass through Mallaguri More, Darjeeling More, Khaprail More, Sainikpuri More, New Chumta Tea Garden Road, National Highway 55, Gulma Tea Garden, Milan More, Champasari More Check Post More, Eastern Bypass, Bhabesh More and Fuleshwari More before culminating at the sangha enclosure. The mini marathon will also end at the Sangha enclosure, after passing through Airview More, Jalpai More, Tinbatti More and Netaji More. The dream run will pass through Sevoke More, Panitanki More, Bidhan Road and Tilak Road, before culminating at the Kanchenjungha Stadium,” he informed. 
Besides attractive trophies, the first five winners in the marathon will be awarded Rs 1 lakh, Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively, while five other winners will become richer by Rs 3,000 each. In the mini marathon, the first five winners in the men’s and women’s categories will each get Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000, Rs 2,000, Rs 1,000 and Rs 500. 
The organisers will also hold a slogan competition during the marathon. The first three winners of the contest will be awarded Rs 3,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 respectively.
