Mini-secretariat to be named Uttarkanya
SNS, Siliguri, 31 December 2013: The mini-secretariat for north Bengal is likely to be named ‘Uttarkanya’ and it will "keep in touch" with state secretariat Nabanna in Howrah.
The contractors, who are working day and night to finish the main building of the mini secretariat, have been waiting for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's approval regarding the proposed name of the mini secretariat.
A few days ago the north Bengal development minister, Mr Gautam Deb, visited the construction site of the mini secretariat and asked constructors to finish the job before 20 January.
Miss Banerjee will visit north Bengal from 20 January and will inaugurate the North Bengal Festival in Siliguri.
Sources said she may visit the mini secretariat and announce the inauguration of Uttarkanya.
“Several names have been proposed for the mini secretariat. The chief minister will approve one. Uttarkanya may be selected,” a senior official said.
The North Bengal Development Department is looking after the entire project and has set a deadline of 18 months.
The project cost was estimated at Rs 37.73 crore.
A total of 6.67 acre land was earmarked for the project which is close to Dabgram Industrial Growth Centre in Jalpaiguri district.
A senior official of the construction company said: “Authorities have asked us to hand over the main building of the mini secretariat within May 2014. We have been asked recently to complete the building and hand it over to them within 20 January. The chief minister is scheduled to visit her dream project.”
