SKM vows to stamp out corruption from state....We are not here to rule, but to serve the people: golay
SNS,Gangtok, 30 December 2013: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha ~ the Opposition party set to challenge the Pawan Chamling regime ruling the state since 1994 ~ has vowed to stamp out corruption from the state if voted to power.
The SKM leader, Mr P S Golay, the bete noir of Mr Chamling, said this at a public meeting held last Saturday at Geyzing in West Sikkim.
“We are not here to rule, but to serve the people. Sikkim will no more see the leaders on the stage and the people on the ground. Now as a change is inevitable the people and the leaders will be seen together at the same level,” he said, alluding to the chief minister’s sarcastic comment that SKM is destined to remain in the Opposition, away from the seat of power. “We will change in the system right from the relam of government expenditure. We will not spend the people’s money in government programmes,” he said.
Taking on Mr Chamling for dubbing his party men as a band of rowdies, he said it is a sad commentary on the performance of the chief minister who also hold the home portfolio.
“The SKM is a party that the educated youths are looking forward to. We have a futuristic vision and this is what makes them embracing us as the party for the future,” Mr Golay said.
During the meeting, a ruling party’s youth leader and its vice president, Lalit Adhikari joined SKM along with his supporters at Gyalshing.
Besides, some former panchayats also joined the party.
A total of 1,200 people from various parties joined SKM, a party leaader claimed.
The meeting also saw some members of All Sikkim Adhoc Teachers’ Welfare Association sharing the dias with the principle Opposition party of the state.
