Binay Tamang moved from Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling

EOI, Jalpaiguri, 3 December 2013: Gorkha Territorial Administration member Binay Tamang was today released from the Jalpaiguri Central Jail. But despite receiving bail on three separate cases related to the Sibchu incident, he has been transferred to the Darjeeling district jail on two other cases filed at the Kalimpong police station.
Tamang had been arrested on August 22 for alleged involvement in the Sibchu incident on February 8, 2011. Several police officials had been injured while three Gorkha Janamukti Morcha activists were killed at the Sibchu area of Nagrakata in the Dooars following a conflict between police officials and the GJM. Tamang was accused of obstructing government work and destroying public property, among others.
Tamang’s lawyer Swarup Mandal said the Jalpaiguri district court had granted him bail on two separate cases related to the Sibchu incident last month, while CGM court magistrate Choudhury Hefazat Karim granted him bail today on a third case.
