Bimal Gurung, Gautam Dev among many pay last respects to Dr Pradhan

EOI, Siliguri, 22 December 2013: Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) chief Bimal Gurung, Secretary Roshan Giri, North Bengal Development minister Gautam Dev along with other top political leaders today paid last homage to historian and eminent journalist Dr Kumar Pradhan at his house in Pradhan Nagar Siliguri.
Gurung offered garland and Khadas and met Dr Pradhan’s wife Poornima and other family members.
He said, “I am disheartened to hear about the demise of Dr. Kumar Pradhan, an iconic Nepali historian and prominent literary figure. Dr Kumar’s contribution to Nepali language and the community will never be forgotten by the Gorkha Community. His death is a huge loss for the Gorkha Community and Darjeeling.”
NBD Minister Gautam Dev, who was also among many who visited Dr. Pradhan’s house today, expressed his condolence to Dr. Pradhan’s family by saying his demise is a great loss to North Bengal. 
Meanwhile, Roshan Giri said that it is a great loss for the Gorkha community and the people will not forget his service to the society. Siliguri MLA Rudranath Bhattacharya said that he was shocked about his death and it is an immense loss for everyone.
MLA from Kurseong Rohit Sharma, Darjeeling Trilok Dean along with huge number of his fans and lovers from Darjeeling district, Dooars, Assam, Sikkim and Nepal paid their homage.
Dr Pradhan’s body will be cremated at Kiran Chandra Ghat at Siliguri on Monday, before that his body will be kept at Deokota Sangh for one hour for the public to pay last homage.

KalimNews: Kalimpong Press Club and eastern Himalayan Journalists' Union has also expressed condolences on the demise of renowned journalist, historian and a litterateur. Dr. Pradhan was a pioneer in the field of Nepalese journalism in the Indian context that created a landmark during the period of the then Sunchari Samachar, a Nepali daily published by him, said Mr. A.K.Rai, secretary of the club and union.
His demise has caused immense loss to the Nepali literature and journalism..All those who worked under his guidance owe to him. His journalistic approach and the trend towards journalistic writing in appropriate and accurate Nepali language was appreciated by one and all and still followed by many, added Rai.
