12-hour transport strike in Hills
SNS, DARJEELING, 7 DEC: Private taxis plying between Darjeeling and Siliguri were off the roads on Saturday as the taxi drivers’ association called a 12-hour taxi strike, protesting against the imposition of toll tax for vehicles passing through Rohini Road.
Truck strike has been continuing since 2 December on the same issue, resulting in fuel scarcity and breakdown of public distribution system.
A meeting was held on Saturday between the truck drivers’ unions and the GTA. Another meeting would be held a week later to sort out the matter, it was decided.
