Gurung blames casual workers for knocking on others’ doors

SNS, Kurseong, 24 November 2013: The Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha chief, Mr Bimal Gurung, blamed the casual workers regarding their regularisation and said that they themselves should make strategies to fulfil their demand.
Addressing the 7th foundation day program of the Janmukti Asthai Karmachari Sangathan (JAKS) ~ an organisation of the casual workers of the GTA affiliated to the GJMM party ~ yesterday at INS Bus Terminus in Kurseong, Mr Gurung held them responsible and advised them to make policies and strategies and upgrade themselves as permanent workers of the GTA.
Mr Gurung said: "We are just elected members of the GTA but you (the casual workers) are the actual players of the GTA. Hence, instead of knocking on other's doors to fulfil your demands, you should first explore yourselves regarding the possibility of fulfillment of your demands. Why should you even demand regularisation from the state government or the GTA? The GTA is already yours and you the people have to make strategies to fulfil your demands.”
At the same time, Mr Gurung again indicated that he will soon return as GTA chief executive again. He said that the present condition of the GTA headquarter Lalkothi is totally isolated, like a house, where a demise has occurred but the people should understand that after a few days of rituals, normalcy will again return there like in a house where somebody has died and after rituals everything is as usual as before.
Mr Gurung also claimed that following the efforts of the GJMM party the casual workers have been presently provided with more facilities, in comparison to earlier times during the erstwhile administration of the DGHC.
Meanwhile, the Kurseong MLA, Mr Rohit Sharma, who recently attended the bipartite and tripartite meeting in Kolkata, briefed on the GTA casual workers' issue discussed during the meeting there.
He said that we have already forwarded and discussed the matter to regularise the GTA workers in the Kolkata meetings and accordingly to solve the issue, an agreement was formulated to form a committee to look into the demand.
He also said the government has already cleared their stance that regularisation will be done through the GTA hence it will be unwise to ask others to fulfill the demand of regularisation.
In yesterday’s meeting, the speakers also criticised those causal workers who have sided and joined the TMC and formed their own employee union “The Darjeeling Himalaya Karmachari Sangathan” under the new banner.
