Chamling slams SKM as bunch of rowdies...skm stands for Sikkim Khane Morcha: Chamling

SNS, Gangtok, 18 November 2013: Tearing into the Opposition, Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), the ruling SDF president and the chief minister, Mr Pawan Chamling said it stands for Sikkim Khane Morcha run by a flock of rowdies carrying a single-point agenda of bringing down his government and banishing him.
“They know well they cannot capture power without pulling me down, as 99 per cent of the people are with me,” he said while addressing his party men, including several prominent newcomers, at SDF headquarters yesterday.
Launching his first direct salvo on SKM, touted as the main rival of his party for next year’s election, Mr Chamling termed it as a refuge of some rowdies, adept in stone-pelting.
Basant Kumar Rai, who had floated Sikkim Jan Ekta Party and unsuccessfully contested the 2009 elections from Namchi, was among those who left SKM and joined SDF along with hundreds of supporters.
“SKM lacks principles and Mr Golay is a leader of the goons. They are functioning here, as there is democracy under the Chamling regime,” said he who had remained a bitter critic of the chief minister for the past seven years.
He said every pan shop in Sikkim would sell contraband drugs if SKM comes to power. “It is horrible to imagine what would happen if Golay’s party wins,” he said.
Mr Chamling in his address welcomed the newcomers and urged them to work for the people with utmost sense dedication and selflessness.
