Tripartite meeting uncertain

ENS, Kolkata, Sat Oct 19 2013: With the uncertainty looming large over the tripartite talk on the Gorkhaland issue and with over 2,000 of its leaders and workers arrested, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has today "appealed" to the state and central government to start a "dialogue" and " resolve" the Gorkahland issue after having earlier spoken about launching a "revolution".
GJM general secretary Roshan Giri said: "We have appealed to the state and Centre to initiate a dialogue and solve the Gorkhaland issue. We have realised that it can only be resolved through talks."
The party, however, has so far not received any official invitation from the Centre for the talks, scheduled for October 23. "While we are sure the talk will take place, the date might get changed," added Giri. Significantly, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to hold a public meeting in Darjeeling on October 24.
" Mamata Banerjee is our chief minister and she can go to any corner of the state she wants. We do not have a problem with that," said Giri.
Sources in GJM rank and files said the Morcha leadership, which has been pushed back by the state government, had also directed its MLAs to hold a meeting with Banerjee when she is in Darjeeling.
Three of the party MLAs are likely to meet the CM when she arrives in the hills.
