Rains cause damage in Hills
SNS & KalimNews, Kurseong, 15 October: Incessant rains accompanied by strong winds since 13 October night have caused damages in the Kurseong sub-division in the Hills.
It is learnt that a house belonging to a BPL family at Lower Dumaram Busty in ward number 5 of the Kurseong municipality was damaged as a tree crashed on its tinned roof last night.
Kaludas Darjee, (62), the owner of the house, said the tree had fallen on the roof around 10:30 p.m. when they were asleep.
“Three of us escaped death almost by the skin of our teeth,” he said.
The torrential rains triggered landslides at Mongpong in the Kalimpong sub-division on Tuesday morning closing the NH31 in between the Coronation bridge and Mongpong.
However the road was cleared and the traffic restored in the afternoon.
