People will reject leaders who betray: GNLF

Deep Pradhan, EOIC, MIRIK, 30 Sep 2013: The Gorkha National Liberation Front’s Mirik president, Ladup Ghising, today asserted the public will soon reject the leadership that has deceived them in the name of statehood.
Without naming the GJM, he said the leaders who reneged on their position after calling strikes for 41 days will be given a fitting answer by the public.
Reiterating that the Darjeeling hills must be included in a constitutionally recognised administrative setup, he said, “This will provide security to the Indian Gorkhas and this is our party’s stance.”
Referring to the history of Darjeeling Ghising said, “Section 8 of the 1950 Indo-Nepal treaty has scrapped all the treaties between Nepal and British India. Hence, the Treaty of Sugauli of 1815 has also become defunct leaving the regions of Darjeeling and Kurseong controversial.”
Claiming the Dooars to be taken on lease by India through the Treaty of Sinchula (1865), the GNLF leader asserted the regions of Darjeeling and the Dooars must be provided with constitutional security.
Ghising said the GNLF demands Sixth Schedule status to guarantee constitutional security to the hills folk, but opposition to such a powerful setup has left the region in a helpless situation.
