No rain, no pain soon...Thursday marks withdrawal of southwest monsoon

SNS, Kolkata, 16 October 2013: The withdrawal process of the southwest monsoon begins on Thursday, after the city witnessed heavy bouts of rain as a result of Cyclone Phailin, which drenched Kolkata during Durga Puja.
“From tomorrow onwards, the withdrawal process of the monsoon will begin and this marks the beginning of the northeast monsoon. This is though the withdrawal process is late by 15 days,” said an official from the meteorological department.
During this process that begins tomorrow, the city will witness sharp downpours along with thunderstorms. The withdrawal process is expected to end by next week.
“The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 31 degrees Celsius,” said the official from the meteorological department.
The arrival of winter will also be delayed due to the delayed withdrawal of the southwest monsoon.
Today, the maximum temperature was recorded at 31.5 degree Celsius, while the minimum settled at 25.6 degree Celsius.
The Met department has forecast a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of moderate rains and thundershowers in some areas.
