Man sentenced for raping step-granddaughter

SNS, Darjeeling, 10 October: The district additional session judge today sentenced a local, Mohan Thapa to life imprisonment for raping his step-granddaughter.

Besides, he would have to pay Rs 50,000 and in case he fails he would have to undergo two more years’ imprisonment. It is learnt that the girl has borne a child at the age of 15 because of the crime.

“According to the testimonies of the victim, Thapa committed the crime when his wife was not at home,” said the public prosecutor, Mr Binod Agarwal. The crime was committed in 2010, he added.
