An eye for beauty

Binodekantipur, KATHMANDU, OCT 21: Remember the glittery, opulent environs of Chandramukhi’s brothel in Bengal in 2002’s acclaimed film Devdas, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali? Or that iconic scene in Rakesh Omprakash Mehra’s Rang De Basanti where the lead actors are running and an aeroplane is flying overhead?
The man who captured these memorable shots was Binod Pradhan , Bollywood cinematographer extraordinaire, who will be sharing his experiences of working in the Indian film industry in an event to be held this week in the Capital for the benefit of Nepali audiences.
Pradhan, who is originally from Kalimpong, Darjeeling, has films like Munna Bhai M.B.B.S, Delhi 6, Parinda and 1942: A Love Story to his credit, and has won accolades and several awards for his contribution to Hindi cinema. The programme set to take place at the Kumari Hall on October 22 at 11.45 am, organised by those behind the recently-held EkaDeshma, Festival De’ Contemporary Cinema, 2013: Threads of Stories, is a two-part event.
The first session will see the cinematographer in conversation with colourist Kapil Parajuli, pulling in discussions about his cinematic philosophy. The second session will consist of Pradhan relating his own stories of working in Bollywood, and interacting with cinematographers and film enthusiasts. He will offer examples from his work, and brief the audience on what went on behind the scenes. He will also be shooting footage at the venue itself with a Red Epic camera. Entry to the programme is free.
