Tamang accused surrender

Vivek Chhetri, TT, Darjeeling, Sept. 5: Five Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leaders accused in the murder case of ABGL leader Madan Tamang who had been granted bail by a Darjeeling court in May, today surrendered after a directive from Calcutta High Court.
Alok Kant Mani Thulung, Kismat Chhetri, Keshav Raj Pokhrel, Puran Thami and Dinesh Gurung had been granted bail on May 18 after they had surrendered to the CBI, which is investigating the case. They surrendered in a Darjeeling court today.
Thulung is the president of the Morcha’s youth wing, and Thami is its general secretary. Chhetri and Pokhrel are the president and general secretary respectively of the Morcha’s student wing. Dinesh Gurung is a former vice-chairman of the Darjeeling municipality.
Bharati, the wife of Madan Tamang, had filed a petition in the high court alleging the five had obtained bail without informing the CBI, which is probing the case.
On August 8, a division bench of the high court directed the accused to surrender before a subordinate court within 14 days
