Attempt to torch shops foiled

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 7 September 2013: Some antisocial elements tried to torch a shop in Ongden Road of Kalimpong.
It was reported that at about 2.30 am in the morning the shop owner Pawan Jindal of Pawan Emporium was alerted when he heard several dogs barking in the street.
While inspecting on the street he saw the fire in his shop. Miscreants had set fire in the wooden door of his shop with clothes soaked with kerosene.
He and his family members along with the help of his neighbours stopped the fire from spreading by pouring water and saved his along with the shop of Shyamlal Agarwal adjacent to his shop. Both shops deal with clothes and are situated to the opposite of Bank of India near Mayuri Lodge.
An FIR is lodged in Kalimpong Police station. ASP Songmit Lepcha and IC Achinta Gupta visited the spot and said that the preliminary investigation has been started and foot patrolling in the town will be increased from this evening.
Meanwhile GJM  has alleged that it is the handiwork of some anti GJM people to malign the image of the party. It has also requested the administration to arrest the culprits.
