JMM to launch movement for autonomous set-up

Rajesh Pradhan, EOIC, CHAMURCHI, 12 Sep 2013 :The Jaharkhand Mukti Morcha is set to start a movement under John Barla’s leadership for an autonomous set-up in the Terai-Dooars. JMM Chamurchi block president Dilip Nayak said the JMM and GJM will jointly start a movement for an autonomous set-up for all-round development of the Terai-Dooars region.
“We will work for the welfare of all the communities of the Terai-Dooars,” he said.
Nayak claimed the JMM and GJM have emerged as key political parties in the region as the alliance defeated the “big established parties” in the Panchayat elections.
He praised Barla’s leadership saying, “Some NGOs are trying to defame the JMM but the victory in the recent polls under John Barla’s leadership has proved he has ample influence in the region.”
Nayak said Terai-Dooars residents have been deprived and oppressed for several decades.
“There must be an autonomous system for the people of the Terai-Dooars. This region is more deprived than the Darjeeling hills and hence a set-up for achieving development is essential here.”
Stating the issue of the Darjeeling hills is a sensitive one, Nayak said, “It should be solved in a peaceful manner through dialogue. Dooars residents need not rack their heads over the issue. The central and the state governments can resolve the matter.”
