“GTA chief confrontation builds up” : To continue with GTA or not?

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 18 September 2013: Hillman the analyst writes in response to a story published in the Telegraph titled “GTA chief confrontation builds up”. The telegraph 14 Sept column “GTA chief confrontation builds up” requires to be viewed with investigative interest then a mere passing phase as the GJM holding the GTA under its firm grasp is a better strategy and the right one than being deluded from non participation at all.
Discarding the importance of GTA will be crucially impacting for the statehood agitation which the state is doing its level best to destabalise with one excuse or another.
As far the implications of the Constitution is concerned relevant to the statehood demand, perceptively speaking under the provision of the Fifth Schedule which aspect has been discussed numerous times within these pages and therefore quite unnecessary to reiterate the same now.
However retaining the GTA for the time being should be the immediate concern of the GJM at any cost and disallow, at any cost to see that the GTA by default of not holding elections or otherwise does not create the empty space for the state to occupy the birth. This can with the order of the day could impact GJM adversely in further destabalising the statehood demand for a period longer than necessary as desired. It could be a prolonging affair in terms of political aspects although the fact remains the statehood demand is legally grounded and therefore cannot be denied on a permanent basis.
Therefore the exercise of those in power is only to prolong the constitutional writ as far as practically possible and engineer schemes to fill up the space during that time only, till Darjeeling Dist qualifies in being determined as a Scheduled Area which fulfills the missing criteria of the Fifth Schedule in respect to Darjeeling Dist.
After which determination the statehood demand becomes a full fledged legality guaranteed by the Constitution itself. It is this vision which the GJM bigwigs require to contemplate and await the finality of time Darjeeling District is determined as a Scheduled Area and within this range of time abide by the GTA provision which infact was the interim setup allowed by the Constitution itself (Fifth Schedule aspect of Darjeeling Dist).
All the members of GTA require to be reminded that they are elected representatives of the people, by the people and for the people for proper administration, though only for an interim period, till Scheduled Area is effected and thereby triggering the statehood issue to its finality.
This is the reading of the Constitution implied to Darjeeling Dist and accordingly the rules of the game requires to be played.
Walking out of the field at half time or any other time during the designated period allocated is not the spirit of the sportsman.
Come what may, the final goal is near at hand and therefore one should not be distracted by the crowd. The game should be played to win the prize at any cost and without any complaints. When the final victory comes all the pains and strains would subside with the gain of a state.
So why bother for the incidentals for the time being which itself will carry the dream to the prize to Gorkhaland – a state for the hill peoples if you will.
