Chamling asks Centre to grant seat reservation for Limboo-Tamangs
SNS, Gangtok, 11 September 2013: Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today requested the Centre to grant seat reservation to Limboo and Tamang communities in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly.
Mr Chamling who met Union Home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde last evening told that the communities declared Scheduled Tribes in 2002 are yet to have their share in the 32-member assembly.
He said Limboo-Tamangs have been provided job reservation as STs in the state and the Assembly has recommended a number of resolutions towards seats reservation, informs an official media statement.
He said the issue now attains top most priority since head-counts of the twin communities have already been done by the 2011 census and seat reservation in the state Assembly needs to be undertaken forthwith.
Mr Chamling also pressed the centre to grant Scheduled Tribe status to all the left-out Sikkimese communities, who he said are feeling denied their due status and should be considered at the earliest.
He however maintained, ‘reservation accorded to the Bhutia-Lepcha communities with 12 seats should not be disturbed while granting reservation to the Limboo-Tamang communities”.
