AINVP calls general strike demanding arrest of bimal gurung

SNS, Siliguri, 9 September 2013: The Trinamul Congress leadership decided to protest against the 12-hour bandh called by AINVP in Siliguri tomorrow and party activists would take to the streets to spoil the anti-GJMM
outfit’s attempt.
Notably, the All India Namasudra Vikas Parishad in the Siliguri sub-division called a general strike tomorrow demanding arrest of Gorkha Jana Mukti Morcha (GJMM) president Mr Bimal Gurung.
The AINVP activists would take to the streets to oppose any attempt to divide Bengal, tomorrow.
The Siliguri Metropolitan police administration alerted all concerned police stations to maintain normality, and law and order in the Siliguri.
“The Trinamul Congress is against any bandh because it affects the development. The chief minister has already said that she would not allow the division of the state, then why have they called the strike against the division of the state. We already appealed to the people of Siliguri to thwart the bandh and keep life normal tomorrow. We are hopeful that people would not respond to the strike. Our party activists would take to the streets and would appeal to the people tomorrow,” said the Darjeeling district party secretary, Mr Krishna Chandra Paul.
“We would not allow holding any picketing, rally in support of the strike. If they forcefully try to enforce the strike, police would take necessary action. We have taken necessary security arrangements,” said the Siliguri Metropolitan Police commissioner, Mr K Jayaraman.
The Siliguri deputy commissioner of police (Headquarters), Mrs O G Pal, said police appealed to the educational institutions, transporters, and businessmen to keep open their establishments tomorrow.
The AINVP general secretaries, Mr Mukul Chandra Bairagya, said state police have not yet arrested Mr Gurung despite 10 non-bailable cases being framed against him.
“We would oppose any attempt of division of the state and we want Bimal Gurung to be arrested immediately. At least 10 non-bailable cases have been filed against him but it is unfortunate that he has not been arrested so far. We called the strike to demand his arrest. The parishad would not force people to shut their establishments. We would take out a rally in support of the strike,” Mr Bairagya said.
