Mahendra P Lama feels strikes not right approach

EOI, KALIMPONG, 7 Aug 2013: Giving his opinion on the indefinite strike called by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, noted academician Dr Mahendra P Lama today said such a move has not proved effective against the state government.
While speaking to this correspondent over phone from Delhi today, he said bandhs instead create pressure on residents themselves. Lama further suggested the GJM leadership to rethink its strategies on statehood demand.
“The leaders should agitate giving minimum disturbance to the public even as they keep piling pressuring on the government,” he said. He stressed on the necessity of discussion to find new strategies in support of Gorkhaland.
However, he did not elaborate on what he was hinting at. “All parties should come together and discuss a strategy that has never been tried before,” said Lama. He expressed his dissatisfaction on the zero reaction of the parties in the Hills to his appeal for an all party delegation to the centre.
On being questioned about his role in the present situation, Lama assured he has been doing everything possible from his side for the statehood demand.
He said, “I cannot elaborate everything but I am doing everything possible.
I am not a leader belonging to neither any party nor am I the people’s representative. I believe efforts of an organisation stand more effective than individual efforts.”

  1. Well said Sir,the way of approach seems not effecting the Bengal Government but instead its creating an impact on the social & economic life of the peoples.........We should find a way out such that, it does not effect us but the Bengal Government...such as stopping the administration departments which helps in the financial of the Bengal Government.
