Demand of inclusion of Mouzas in Duars will soon be revived

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 17 Aug 2013: GJM of the Duars will revive the demand for 395 mouza-inclusion in the GTA once the board formation in all the Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samity and Zilla Parishad procedure is over in the Jalpaiguri district.
Madhukar Thapa, a member of the GJM central Committee representing the Duars confirmed it.
He said that in different areas of Duars the GJM has formed boards, recently the GJM-JMM alliance formed a similar board at Banarhat No. 2 Village Panchayat and the same will be followed at Lanka Para and Hantu Para Village Panchayats.
Thapa added that the GJM-JMM alliance’s victory in the rural polls proves that there is still mass support for the Gorkhas in the Duars region and which indicates that the report of the High Power Committee on inclusion of 396 Mouzas led by Justice Shyamal Sen is out dated.
Following the party’s success in the recently-held trilateral Panchayat polls, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has revived its demand for the inclusion of some mouzas of the Dooars and Terai into the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration.
It is also demanding the cancellation of the Shyamal Sen Committee report.
It is noteworthy to mention that GJM-JMM alliance have also won a few seats of Jalpaiguri Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti.
Morcha leaders are of the opinion that the inclusion of areas of the Dooars into the GTA has been in demand and the state government appointed former high court judge Shyamal Sen to conduct a survey on this, but it was just an eyewash.
After the submission of the report, only two mouzas were included into the GTA. The report said that only a negligible Gorkha population were found in the GJM claim mouzas.
